“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.” John 14:27
The peace that Jesus offers is unlike anything the world can provide. His peace is remarkable, supernatural, and completely different from the fleeting peace the world offers.
The world’s peace is based on circumstances. When life is going well, we might feel at peace. But the moment circumstances change, that peace vanishes. It’s unreliable and tied to our emotions, leaving us tossed around by every challenge and uncertainty. In contrast, the peace that Christ gives is stable and unchanging. It doesn’t shift with the storms of life. Think of a submarine submerged deep below the surface of the ocean. No matter how fierce the storm above, the submarine remains calm in the cushion of the sea.
In the same way, when we’re anchored in Christ, His peace holds us steady, even when chaos swirls around us. This peace is also sufficient. It may not always make sense in the face of trials, but it sustains us. People may wonder how we can remain calm when life is falling apart, but the peace of Christ is not rooted in circumstances—it’s a gift from God rooted in what He’s done for us.
Finally, the peace of Christ is supernatural. It’s not something we can generate on our own. It’s a fruit of the Holy Spirit working in our lives (Galatians 5:22). When the Spirit is at work within us, we experience peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
As we face the challenges of life, this peace is available to us—stable, sufficient, and supernatural—through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit’s presence in our hearts.
