“You must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Joshua's declaration, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15), stands as one of the most powerful testimonies about family priorities in Scripture. It reminds us that serving God and building a godly home is a deliberate choice we must make. In this culture, it's crucial to intentionally cultivate God's priority in your home because if you don't purposefully do this, it won't happen by accident. How can you do this?
Well, this passage Deuteronomy 6:4-9 provides a small blueprint. You’re instructed to love God wholeheartedly and to diligently teach His commandments to your children. This teaching should permeate every aspect of their daily lives - when at home, walking along the road, lying down, and getting up. As parents it’s our responsibility to create an environment where the Holy Spirit can work in our children's hearts. We can't force them to love God, but we can establish "house rules" that align with His teachings. This may sometimes mean making unpopular decisions, but remember - if you don't make choices for your family, the world will do it for you.
Now, there are no perfect homes, parents, or children. However, by consistently prioritizing God and His word in your household, you can significantly influence the spiritual health of your family and even impact future generations.
Today, commit to making the deliberate choice, day by day, to cultivate the priority of God in your home!
