“Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity…” Hebrews 6:1
For a long time, our theme as a church at Ridgecrest has been “God is always trying to take you some place new because the journey never ends.” If the journey never ends, that means you have to keep moving!
The writer of Hebrews challenges his audience to do something they had avoided for a long time. It was time for them to finally leave their spiritual childhood behind and move forward. Their challenge was to move forward to a deep, mature understanding of the implications of confessing Christ as their savior. In other words, it was time for them to stop saying the right things and start doing the right things. To move from being merely a confessor but a possessor.
So, let me challenge you today to take the rest of this year, no matter where you are right now with God, to ask Him to help you move forward and go deeper with Him. This isn’t just a three month challenge or a year long challenge. No, I’m challenging you to simply make a commitment to God to get to know him deeper and more consistently than ever before.
You may hesitate, asking, “but what if I fail?” Well, that’s okay. Just get back up and keep going. Acts 1:8 says, “but you shall receive power when the holy spirit has come upon you.” It was only after the early church received this power that their growth really exploded.
We’ve talked a lot this week about how to grow up spiritually, but it ultimately starts there, with the Holy Spirit. Don’t get ahead of God, but wait on the Holy Spirit as you move forward with spiritual abandonment.
