The Need To Seek God

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near…”
Isaiah 55:6

You know, we have a tendency to create a version of God that fits our own preferences and seek that god rather than seeking the God who actually is.

Seeking the God you want rather than the God who is will prevent you from truly discovering the God who is. If you want to truly seek God you’ll need to do so with three qualities.

1) Urgency. Recognize the brevity of life and the importance of eternal matters. Don't assume you have all the time in the world to get serious about God.

2) Intensity. In Jeremiah 29:13, God promises, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” He wants to be found by those who earnestly search for Him.

3) Sincerity. Move beyond empty religious rituals in order to develop a genuine longing for God. Even when you don't feel like seeking God, discipline yourself to keep pursuing Him until your feelings align with your actions. The psalmist tells us that God is actively looking for those who seek Him (Psalm 14:2) and the writer of Hebrews says He rewards those who diligently search for Him (Hebrews 11:6).

Don't let the routines or misplaced priorities rob you of your passion for God.

Today, reflect on your own life: Have you lost your sense of urgency in pursuing God? Are you seeking the God who is, or a version that fits your preferences?

Challenge yourself to seek Him with renewed energy and commitment, knowing that He desires a deep and personal relationship with you.
